Easygroup issues warning

Easyjet is currently in hot water and has 90 days to prove itself worthy of the ‘Easyjet’ name. The founder of Easygroup Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou is currently waging war with Easyjet in a bid to get the airline to improve the service or lose the right to use the Easy brand.

This situation seems to have come to a head when a national newspaper revealed that throughout June less than 50 percent of Easyjet flights departed Gatwick on time. This lead to Stelios sending a letter to Easyjet (it is also published online on the EasyGroup website) outlining the problems with customer service and punctuality.

A statement was issued clearly blaming the management of Easyjet for the airline’s shoddy punctuality record. He went on to say that unsolicited complaints had been received from the public and the airlines own pilots, and improvements must be made or the brand licence will be withdrawn. A ‘cure notice’ has been issued by Easygroup’s lawyers which gives the airline 90 days to get their act together or face the consequences.

However Easyjet have questioned Easygroup’s right to pull the plug on their right to use the brand on the grounds of performance. Stelios who resigned from the board earlier this year in order to lead a revolt over expansion plans, currently owns 38 percent of Easyjet. This one could rumble on and on.
