Insureme4 signs up to 'Know Before You Go' campaign

Many of us like to think of ourselves as intrepid travellers even if the only extent of our travel spans as far as the Spanish Costas or the Greek Islands, adopting a blasé attitude when it comes to preparing for a trip.  It’s not only those who’ve enjoyed regular foreign holidays that are affected, pretty much anyone with a TV set now views the world as a much smaller and almost familiar place, which can sometimes lull us in to a false sense of security.

Which is why Insureme4 has joined over 300 household names such as Place in the Sun, Boots, British Airways, AA and many more by signing up as a campaign partner in the ‘Know Before You Go Campaign’ (KBYG) a joint venture between the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the travel industry. The campaign launched in 2001 is designed to help Brits stay safe and healthy whilst travelling abroad by providing helpful information. And top of the list is to make sure you buy adequate travel insurance suitable for your destination, activities and the duration of the trip.

KBYG key messages
• Always find an adequate travel insurance policy
• Check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s country travel advice
• Research. Know the local laws and customs (ignorance is no defence)
• Visit your GP before you go leaving enough time to get any necessary injections
• Make sure your passport is in good condition, valid and have applied for the necessary visas
• Copy important travel documents and/or store them online using a secure data storage site
• Leave contacts details and information on where you will be visiting
• Ensure you have access to emergency funds

Although the campaign provides general travel advice it also offers information specifically tailored towards special interest travel groups such as package holiday makers, sports trips, ethnic minorities and elderly and retired travellers. However it’s young travellers who are consistently proven to be the least prepared, so the campaign endeavours to provide mini campaigns covering areas such as gap years, road safety abroad, festivals, Rugby tours etc.

However, when it comes to staying safe abroad, there’s no room for complacency no matter what age you are. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have to have fun!
